About Ichigokai - Karate and Kobujutsu in Hounslow
Traditional martial arts training focused on discipline, personal growth, and lifelong learning.
Ichigokai is a traditional martial arts club in West London offering Shotokan Karate and Ryukyu Kobujutsu for students who want more than just a class. Rooted in the principle of ichi-go ichi-e ; each moment, only once our training is built around discipline, respect, continuous learning, and personal growth.
We believe martial arts should develop the whole person, not just technique. Through structured and authentic training, students build confidence, focus, resilience, self-control, and a deeper understanding of themselves. Whether you are starting your martial arts journey or looking to deepen existing practice, Ichigokai provides a welcoming environment where serious progress is encouraged.

This broader martial path shapes Ichigokai’s philosophy — Karate provides the foundation, while Kobujutsu reveals deeper lessons in timing, distance, precision, and awareness.

About Mehar Brar
Dedicated to help people grow through structured, supportive, & purposeful training.
Ichigokai is led by Mehar Brar, an experienced martial artist and dedicated instructor with over 45 years of training in Shotokan Karate and over 20 years in Ryukyu Kobujutsu. His teaching combines traditional martial arts values with a calm, structured, and supportive approach that helps students of all abilities progress with confidence.

With a background in education, coaching, and leadership, Mehar focuses not only on teaching technique, but on helping students understand the purpose behind their training. His classes are disciplined, welcoming, and designed to help each student grow both physically and mentally.

Mehar began training in Shotokan Karate in 1981 and has spent decades developing his knowledge through practice, teaching, competition, and continued study. His journey later expanded into Ryukyu Kobujutsu, recognising the deep connection between traditional weapons training and Karate.

Mehar holds 4th Dan in Shotokan Karate and 3rd Dan in Ryukyu Kobujutsu, with continued training through recognised traditional martial arts pathways. Ichigokai follows the Ryukyu Kobujutsu Association of Great Britain (RKAGB) syllabus and maintains links to senior instructors and established martial arts organisations. This ensures students benefit from authentic lineage, structured progression, and training rooted in respected martial traditions rather than isolated or improvised practice.
