Ryukyu Kobujutsu training with ICHIGOKAI
When students reach senior grades in karate, ideally at least 1st Dan although we would
consider students up to 2nd Kyu if they have a strong interest, we encourage them to
learn Kobujutsu. Training with weapons has always been very closely linked to
empty-hand training and it is important to use each type of training to support the other.
Karate prepares the body to for the technical and physical demands of Kobujutsu. The use of weapons feeds back, surprisingly quickly, into improvements in Karate.

We practice Kobujutsu during our Sunday senior classes - 10.00 am - 12.00 pm. The Instructor is: Mehar Brar (4th dan Shotokan Karate; 3rd Dan Ryukyu Kobujutsu)

All senior grades, from any other martial art are welcome.
This will greatly complement your current training.

We follow the syllabus of the Ryukyu Kobujutsu Association of Great Britain (RKAGB)
led by our Chief Instructor Sensei Julian Mead. The organisation is affiliated to the
Ryukyu Kobujutsu Hozon Shinko Kai (Japan). Regular additional training is available
with Sensei Mead on RKAGB courses. Additional training with other senior UK instructors
and with Japanese instructors is also available.
There are 42 kata across 8 weapons. Students start with the 6ft Bo, then move on to Sai,
Tonfa, Nunchaku, Kama, Tekko, Tinbe Rochin, Surijin.
