Instructors

Mehar Brar – 4th Dan Karate; 3rd Dan Ryukyu Kobujutsu.

Mehar started training in Shotokan karate in 1981 with Sensei Roger Timmins (ASKA) whilst at Aston University in Birmingham. After leaving university in 1983 he trained with the then Chief Instructor of ASKA, Sensei Balwant Sahans, in his home town of Southall. Mehar is very grateful for the development in training, teaching, competing and refeering that Sensei Sahans led him through. He also considers himself very fortunate to be given the opportunity to advance his training and deepen his understanding through high-quality instruction and guidance in Ryukyu Kobujutsu from Sensei Julian Mead. With a background in education, he is passionate about providing thoughtful and committed martial arts training to help young people and adults live healthy lives and become successful in their ambitions.

Jatinder Chaggar – 3rd Dan Karate.

Jatinder was introduced to Karate from the tender age of 6 and continued to train with Sensei Balwant Sahans and Sensei Harvinder Sagoo through to his thirties. He was also fortunate to study Aikido under the guidance of Sensei Sahans and the late Sensei Foster, from the Institute of Aikido. Jatinder is passionate about Karate and continues to study the art and its numerous branches, particularly Ryukyu Kobujutsu with Sensei Julian Mead. He is dedicated to broadening his martial arts skills as a student and takes immense pleasure in imparting his knowledge through teaching. His other passions include his work; as a registered Architect. Jatinder applies his keen eye for detail to both his work and his passion for the martial arts.

Inderpal Khambay 2nd Dan Karate.

After initial exposure to Shotokan karate in 1973, Inderpal started his sustained practice in 1984 under Sensei Sahans. He obtained his 1st Dan in 1988 and gained the experience of competition. Family and work commitments took him away for some time, but he returned to serious training in 1998. Through perseverance and hard work he successfully obtained his 2nd Dan under Sensei Sahans. He has now added kobujutsu to his martial arts skills and, like all our instructors, is a member of the RKAGB. He also assists in teaching the open Ichigokai karate class.

Rajinder Chaggar 1st Dan karate.

Rajinder started Shotokan karate at the age of 8 years at the Ramgarhia Karate Club, then run by Sensei Harvinder Sagoo and overseen by Sensei Balwant Singh Sahans. From the age of 10 years he continued to train with Sensei Sahans at the Southall Shotokan Karate Club, Featherstone School. Despite taking breaks from training due to University education, he always returned to Sensei Sahans’dojo and supplemented this with regular yoga classes. Having achieved Shodan in 2009, he continues to train regularly and deepens his practice through the study of Ryukyu Kobujutsu

As an Anaesthetist, he finds it stimulating to explore the how the body’s physiology and anatomy develop alongside our practice of Karate and Kobujutsu. Trips to Japan and Okinawa, including a visit to Sensei Hokoma’s dojo (Gojuryu Karate), have developed his interest and breadth of knowledge about how Okinawan Karate is integrated into Japanese history and culture.
